David Jackson
David Jackson leads a research group in the MRC Human Immunology Unit at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, focusing on molecular and cellular aspects of leucocyte trafficking in the vasculatures. Qualifying with a B.A. in Natural Sciences (Biochemistry) from Trinity College Dublin and a Ph.D. in the biochemistry of GPI-linked membrane glycoproteins (1983), David was appointed to a Wellcome post-doctoral Fellowship in the laboratory of Prof Sir John Bell in 1987. He was subsequently awarded a Royal Society travelling Fellowship to the University of Alberta in 2000, a Yamanouchi Research Fellowship (Wolfson College) in 1992, and an MRC Senior Fellowship in 1995 before joining the newly established MRC Human Immunology Unit (HIU) in 2000 under Prof Sir Andrew McMichael FRS. Since then he has worked through four successive quinquennial periods as a Unit Principal Investigator, during which time he was elected to a University Research Lectureship in 2003 and a University Professorship in Human Immunology in 2004. He presently directs research as a Program Leader and MRC Investigator in the MRC HIU.
