ISL LYMPHOLOGY CONGRESS 2021

Dear Friends,

With the history and valuable experience gathered from the past 27 International Congresses of Lymphology, we are very excited to be organizing the 28th World Congress of International Society of Lymphology in Athens, Greece, from the 20th until the 24th of September 2021.

Since the beginning of the year 2020, the world has faced extreme challenges from the consequences borne by the COVID-19 pandemic and although it has been a stressful and trying time for us all, we are confident and hopeful that we will be able to welcome you in our next world congress. Therefore, it is an honor to invite all of you, both those exclusively working in the field of lymphology and those interested in it, in order to come together with the mutual scope of promoting this field for the benefit of the patients afflicted by lymphatic diseases.

At the moment, interest in lymphology is truly extraordinary. Even in view of the increasing incidence of primary lymphedema, and mainly secondary, covering all ages and lymphatic malformations, troncular and extra-troncular, many national and international scientific societies, associations and study groups, are contributing to spreading the knowledge regarding these diseases and their treatment methods, something that the international scientific community had already spent years in studying.

The World Congress of Lymphology is the largest multidisciplinary congress that discusses all aspects of the related diseases under one roof, offering courses and lectures by some of the world’s most distinguished experts, as well as workshops and posters sessions, having as its main goal to contribute to the progress of the entire field of Lymphology. At the same time, the Congress prides itself on providing a stage for young upcoming talents to present their research to a first-rate audience.

Participation of all societies and specialties: the study and the management of the lymphatic diseases means the cooperation between many European, International Societies and specialists, such as lymphologists, internists, oncologists, dermatologists, vascular internists, phlebologists, physicians specialized in infectious diseases, radiologists, gynecologists, surgeons, vascular surgeons, plastic surgeons, nurses, physiotherapists, instructors of gymnastics, instructors of diet etc. The aim of this congress is to confirm the multidisciplinary character of lymphology, the wide range of interests and to provide a unique forum for all critical issues concerning management and care of patients with lymphatic diseases. 

Educational-Training: world-renowned professors from all over the world will pass on to us both their experience and their scientific knowledge. For this purpose, educational seminars-courses will be organized, focusing both on surgical and on conservative treatment, for the management and prevention of lymphatic diseases and especially Lymphedema, one of the most important complications in cancer patients. Special certifications will be given at the end of each course signed by world-renowned professors.

Publication of the abstracts: all authors wishing to submit their scientific abstract in the field of Lymphology are more than welcome to share and publish their work during the world congress. All abstracts will be published in Journal of Lymphology Supplement.

Greek hospitality: for the duration of the congress, participants from abroad will have a chance to savor the beauty and hospitality that Greece has to offer. An impressive social program will enhance interaction not only between early career professionals and their peers, but also present opportunities to discuss with the top specialists in the field as well as other young colleagues, in a relaxed environment.

Sport-running event: “LIVE BETTER - RUNNING AGAINST CANCER & CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES”, the running event will be held during the 28th World Congress of Lymphology. With the participation of the scientific community of the congress, but also doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, patients and all those interested and willing to participate in this race, regardless of their fitness level. Greece has been a pioneer in sporting events since ancient times, inspiring the Olympic ideal and this will be showcased in this great sporting event. The running event, through the generous contribution of our sponsors and running community, will benefit the international, independent medical humanitarian organisation “Médecins Sans Frontières‎/Doctors Without Borders (MSF)”.

Knowledge-Friendship: during the 28th World Congress of Lymphology, we hope all participants will have the chance to communicate and have scientific exchanges, in the scope of creating a new global multidisciplinary attitude, incorporating contributions from all specialties dealing with lymphology. We hope that Athens, being a city with over 3000 years of history, culture and architecture will be the ideal setting for friendly relations among attendants and faculty, that are inspired by new scientific ideas and developments.
